Push for new powers to reduce road works impacts

19 Sep 2024

Following a series of disruptive roadworks in Kirkliston, the local Lib Dem team has called for new powers so companies can be charged each day for occupying roads and pavements. Similar powers exist in England but Council’s in Scotland cannot currently charge utility companies a daily rate.

Councillor Louise Young said, “We all realise how utility companies need to undertake works o their network.  What makes people angry is when roadworks are set up with no work being undertaken, causing delay and frustration. That’s why we think the Council needs new powers to charge companies a day rate.  This could make a big difference.”
