32 Bus

7 Aug 2024

The new 32 service between Cramond and Balerno, via the Gyle Centre, is now up and running. It stops along Maybury Road.

As residents will be aware, we made the case when this bus route was created that it should serve East Craigs, coming up along Maybury Drive to the terminus at Bughtlin Market.

This request was not accepted, and we now have information explaining why. Extending the route to East Craigs would have meant either a less frequent service, or an extra vehicle would have had to be laid on.

Given the funding to support the route was finite, and the Council had several other supported services to reinforce with the saem pot of money, it was decided they couldn't bear the cost of an extra vehicle within the alloted funding. The Council also did not want the service to be less frequent.

Local Lib Dem councillor Ed Thornley said: "I'm glad we have an explanation as to why our request for the 32 to serve East Craigs was not taken forward.

"However, we remain certain that there is a substantial potential customer base for this service in East Craigs, which could help it's financial situation too, and we firmly believe that public transport needs to actually link people with the places they want to go to.

"The 32 coming up to the terminus at Bughtlin Market would provide a vital link to the Gyle and Edinburgh Park station for local resident, and we will be continuing to make the case for the route to ultimately serve East Craigs."
