Eye Pavilion Closure: Alex Demands Answers

2 Oct 2024

Following news that the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion will close for 6 months for pipe work and asbestos removal I secured an emergency statement about the closure in Parliament.

I am concerned that the health board don’t yet know the full extend of asbestos contamination at the pavilion. If its use is found to be widespread I’m concerned that may see this vital facility closed for longer.

The temporary loss of the pavilion will be a bitter blow to patients and staff alike. It is however a vindication of the efforts of the Keep Edinburgh Eye Pavilion campaign and the Corstorphine Sight Loss Group, who I’ve been campaigning with for a new facility given the Princess Alexandra Pavilion is in such a state.

Lots of residents have been in touch with me to express their concerns regarding this closure. I felt it was important to update you all. I will keep you posted on any further information.
