Bin Hub Update

12 Mar 2024

New bin “hubs” have appeared across the Ward as phase 3 and 4 of the communal bin review is rolled out, areas impacted stretch all the way from Warriston to Blackhall.

The new hubs contain general waste, recycling, food and controversially glass. Hal Osler says “I know there has been a level of anger at how the change in the bins has been handled. I have met with officers and residents to discuss many of the placements, some we have been successful at getting moved others due to the strict criteria we have not. In the case where we have not I can only apologise and I will keep working with residents to see what can be done.

The two main issues outside of the placements is the presence of a glass unit and units overflowing. We have been told that glass is part of the recycling so it will remain, work is being done on how the noise can be dampened. Residents are also observing that due to their smaller size the units are regularly overflowing. I have been informed that there are “teething” issues and the new uplift schedule is taking awhile to bed in. I would be very grateful if residents could report all overflowing bins here, as I have discovered some were missed off the list and this allows them to be tracked. If I can be of any assistance with any of the above then please do let me know.

For residents living on the Terraces or who presently have gull sacks, you are phase 5 and that is still under consideration, the next update I believe will be in May. If you want to know more about the review please see the latest report here.”
