Bin Hub Update

17 Dec 2024

Over the last few years the Communal Bin Hub Review has been rolled out. At its heart the idea was to improve the ability for residents to recycle and to have smaller units that were emptied more frequently.

This should not have been a controversial issue as the areas in question (within the Inverleith Ward) largely already had communal bins. Sadly due to the decision by the then led SNP Administration to move bins and not consult residents, so many only found out as the bins were actually being installed that has not proved to be the case.

Fast forward a few years and many attempts at getting changes and bins moved and critically a new Administration.

Hal Osler says: “I am delighted to say that finally back in November after many years of pushing and a number of failed attempts we finally managed to convince all five political parties to make some critical changes to the bin siting criteria.

Two of the biggest changes are bins no longer have to be on the same side of the road as residents but can (if there is a pavement or sufficient grass verve) by placed on the other side of the road and the walkable distance to a bin has been increased which will allow us to look at provision.

This will, as you can imagine, take time to set up the next steps and as soon as I know what they are I will let residents know.

I wanted to thank everyone for all their comments about this and apologies for all the stress that this has caused."
