Bin Lorries at Clermiston Primary
After several parents were in touch about a bin lorry recently reversing into the access road at Clermiston Primary at drop-off time, the local Lib Dem team raised these concerns with the Council.
Local Lib Dem councillor Ed Thornley said, "Just over a year ago, a child was killed in Cramond by a bin lorry reversing as he was on his way to school. Yet sometimes, bin lorries are still driving around our school gates as children arrive for school. This has to stop.
"We raised this urgently with the Council, and I'm glad to say that we have been told that all drivers have been told not to go anywhere near school entrances after 8am going forward.
“I'm sure that drivers are as careful as they can be, but we simply cannot keep taking this risk. In the long term we understand that routes will be changed to try and avoid this happening again, but for now the instruction to stay away from schools at drop off time is most welcome.
"If you see a bin lorry around a local primary school at drop off or pick up, please let us know and we will pick it up again with the Council."
