Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) has been identified at Blackhall Library.  Following UK Government guidance, the Library closed on the 14th of September to allow a more detailed inspection to be carried out.

The investigative work is ongoing, so interim library provision is being arranged in the meantime. To find out more please click on the following link https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/directory-record/1229171/blackhall-library

Hal Osler said, “Sadly this is not going to be a quick fix for the library, as the RAAC is pretty extensive. I know there have been concerns about the future of the library and I used my chance at Full Council on Thursday to get reassurance from the Council Leader that the discovery of RAAC will not be used as an excuse to close the library permanently. He assured me that that was not the case and the intention would be to reopen the library as soon as is feasible, but it might take a while.”
