Caldwell takes action on Leith Walk broken pavements and sinking utility covers
Many constituents have raised concerns with Councillor Jack Caldwell regarding the workmanship of the pavements along the new tram route on Leith Walk and Elm Row.
Councillor Caldwell has carried out many surveys and reported broken and loose paving stones to the Council. He says;
"There's clearly an issue with the grouting used on laying some of these new paving slabs. I've been listening to residents, collating the main locations along the whole mile and now real engineers will be inspecting them and hopefully plans will be in place to fix them."
There were also issues recently with utility covers on the roadway sinking. Councilor Caldwell said:
"I received a report this week about a particular manhole at the Elm Row / Brunswick Road / McDonald Road junction and understand today the Police and Highway Maintenance have coned it off. However this means the 10 bus cannot get round to is corner southbound and therefore is going via Pilrig Street.
The collapsing utility covers are already in the defects register to be picked up on, and although I have been posting about and talking to the Trams to Newhaven team a lot about defects and unfinished assets, issues and impacts on the community like this is why it’s important we continue pursuing."
