Christine fights for Council funding
Christine recently secured a meeting with Local Government Minister, Simon Hoare, to ensure money from the UK Government aimed at helping local councils actually reaches those in Scotland.
With emergency money recently given to councils in England, the Scottish Government received more than £45 million in extra funding – but with no guarantee that all of this will be passed on to councils, this has left representatives in cities like Edinburgh making cuts.
Christine asked the minister to look at a new mechanism for passing emergency funding, or support for specific projects, directly to councils – which the minister is now considering.
She said “I am delighted that the Minister agreed we should look at how councils like ours could get easier access to emergency funding, or money for specific projects. After years of SNP cuts, I hope Ministers will continue to work with me to ensure they don’t lose out again”.
