Christine Jardine sets out priorities for new Parliament.
Liberal Democrat MP Christine Jardine has returned to the House of Commons to swear in after winning her seat of Edinburgh West for the third time.
Ms Jardine won 26,645 votes in Edinburgh West with a majority of more than 16,000 votes ahead of the Scottish National Party. She becomes the first Lib Dem to retain the seat at three elections.
The Liberal Democrats won 72 seats, their highest total in a century, including six in Scotland.
Ms Jardine hopes this will put renewed focus on issues such as the NHS and the cost-of-living crisis, as well as pushing the new Government to revisit her Bills to support bereaved children, and British citizens abroad suffering human rights abuses.
Christine Jardine said:
“I am honoured to have been chosen by people right across Edinburgh West to serve as their Member of Parliament once again.
“Our community is crying out for change. Families are struggling with energy bills and standing charges, our GP surgeries are stretched to the limit, and every day sewage is being dumped into rivers like the Almond.
"People in Edinburgh West want to see two governments working together on the issues that matter to them, not fighting constant constitutional battles and failing our public services.
“I will use my voice in Parliament to call for much-needed investment in our health and care systems, action to tackle the cost-of-living crisis, support for bereaved children and improving our environment.
“I am committed to securing a fair deal for everyone in Edinburgh West.”
