Edinburgh West MP Urges Government to Scrap Employers’ National Insurance Changes
Edinburgh West MP Christine Jardine has once again urged the UK Government to scrap Employers’ National Insurance changes, as recent polling has revealed that 40% of people in Scotland expect more local businesses to close as a result.
The polling also revealed that 55% of Scots expect prices to increase in small businesses due to the National Insurance increase and 37% expect the number of available jobs in these businesses to decrease.
Ms. Jardine urged the Government to rethink their NICs hike and scrap it for local small businesses in Edinburgh West.
Christine Jardine said:
“Small businesses are vital to the economic success of Edinburgh West, and we need to do everything we can to support them.
“I have already heard from so many constituents who worry what the UK Government’s Employers’ National Insurance changes will mean for businesses, and these new figures show just how significantly faith in the Government has eroded.
“The Chancellor must urgently rethink her plan to restore confidence in our economic footing.”
