At the end of last year, Edinburgh once again experienced significant rain which this time saw the Water of Leith rise to its highest level for years.

Several residents in Inverleith, Warriston Crescent and Stockbridge Colonies suffered degrees of flooding with some basements in Howard Street particularly badly hit.

A meeting was organised between elected members, Scottish Water and the City of Edinburgh Flood Team to discuss the immediate problems and try to identify future solutions.

Since that meeting Scottish Water have unblocked a sewer in the Canonmills area which has helped in terms of wastewater flow.

Local councillor Hal Osler, who helped secure this vital meeting, said, "At the moment I am organising a further discussion involving Residents Associations of these two areas and Council Flood Officers, with a view to there being better understanding, and very importantly better communication so that in future, residents will know what is happening."
