Jardine Calls for Action on Airport Delays and Cancellations
Edinburgh West MP Christine Jardine has called on the UK Government to fix the constant delays at Edinburgh Airport and others across the UK.
Ms. Jardine blamed the combined impact of staffing shortages, increased traffic and airspace congestion for ongoing disruption. Jardine stresses that much disruption could be avoided by implementing the Airspace Modernisation Strategy that has faced considerable delays over the past several years.
Ms. Jardine raised this matter with the Government during an Urgent Question on cancellation of flights.
Christine Jardine said:
“My constituents in Edinburgh West who want to go on holiday have faced near-constant delays at Edinburgh Airport.
“Our tourism and hospitality sectors across Scotland also underline the importance of ensuring that our airports can bring visitors here without disruption or cancellation.
“Air traffic control staffing pressures, combined with an increase in air travel, currently threaten our connectivity with Europe and the rest of the world.
“I would like to see the UK Government implement an Airspace Modernisation Strategy and work in closer collaboration with our European partners to ensure that my constituents are able to enjoy their holidays without disruption.
