Jardine welcomes reprieve for RBS Newbridge

7 Oct 2024

Edinburgh West MP Christine Jardine has welcomed the news that due to new financial services legislation, the vital Royal Bank of Scotland branch in Newbridge will be remain open for longer.

RBS have said that they are in discussion with the Financial Conduct Authority and the branch will not close immediately as previously announced.

Ms Jardine previously met with the bank to press the serious impact this will have on residents and businesses in the West of Edinburgh.

Christine said:

“The announcement that RBS Newbridge will not close immediately is very welcome and gives our communities some reprieve.

Access to banking services is vital to so many residents, especially vulnerable and elderly people. Small businesses who are already struggling in a difficult economic environment do not need the added journey times that this closure would have entailed.

I am calling on RBS to do the right thing and permanently reject this disastrous closure”.
