Lib Dem Budget Success
February was budget time at the Council, you may remember in a slight twist it was the Liberal Democrat budget that passed last year. This saw (amongst other things) £11.5m extra investment in roads, pavement and path repairs, £3m extra in green space going towards not only repairs in our parks but investment in toilet facilities and lighting as well and £2m in flood prevention.
This year for the Liberal Democrats again it was all about investment. The first and most crucially not only did we stop the planned cuts to education but we made sure that an extra £2m was put into the school budgets which had been cut previously. In addition, we made sure £12.5m extra was put into repairing the roads, pavements and paths as we know due to major underinvestment there is still so much outstanding . More money was invested in our parks and green spaces including money for repair of bridges and paths along the Water of Leith.
We are also very aware that the cost of living crisis is still a real challenge for many so additional resources have been made to provide support for families to maximise their income.
The Council has limited funds and we know it is extremely important that we use these resources wisely. We listened to our residents and what we heard overwhelming was invest, invest in our education, invest in our infrastructure, invest in our environment, invest in our health, invest in our communities, invest in our future.
