The City of Edinburgh Council is consulting residents and operators across the city on what potential revenue raised from the Transient Visitor Levy, proposed from 2026, should be invested into.

Upon launch of the consultation in September 2024, Liberal Democrat Councillors won assurances that the proposals would be more balanced towards the needs of infrastructure and public services.

Since then, Edinburgh Liberal Democrat Group Leader Councillor Kevin Lang got assurances from the Labour Council leader that any income will be fairly spent across communities, not just concentrated in the city centre. Councillor Lang has also been pressing the point that any income generated must not be used as an excuse for the Scottish Government to further cut Edinburgh's budget.
