With votes from Lib Dem, Labour, Conservative and Green councillors, the Lib Dem 2023/24 budget proposal passes. Here are some highlights;

  • Stops £5 million of education cuts.
  • Injects £11 million extra to tackle our broken roads and pavements.
  • More investment for parks.
  • New money for climate change action.
  • £3 million to save the Kings Theatre.
  • Protects Taxicard.

Group leader, Cllr Kevin Lang said "We've got a budget that first and foremost avoids £5million of education cuts. We always said education cuts were our red line and I'm delighted and releieved the Council has chosen not to go ahead with those proposals. This budget also has a lower Council tax rise than both the SNP and Labour proposals, saving money for Edinburgh residents during a Cost of Living Crisis".
