Lib Dems raise Road Safety Concerns
53 Parent Councils from across Edinburgh wrote to all councillors ahead of February's Council meeting with their concerns about failures to deliver road safety projects.
At the meeting, on 6th February, the Liberal Democrats raised these concerns with both the Council Leader and the Transport Convener, who responded that road safety is a top concern for the Labour administration, and promised to investigate further into the issues raised by the Parent Councils.
Local Lib Dem councillor, Ed Thornley said, "While I welcome the commitment from senior councillors to look into this, but they really can't have been surprised to hear these concerns.
"Parent Councils and councillors across the city have been raising these concerns for years, and pushing for actual delivery of solutions.
"I have consistently raised concerns about road safety on Parkgrove Drive, Maybury Road, Glasgow Road, Queensferry Road, Clermiston Road and more on over a dozen occasions with the previous and current Council Leaders and Transport Conveners. My colleagues across the city have been doing the same.
"Every time, the response has been that changes are being developed, or are coming soon, but that hasn't made these streets any safer for children getting to school.
“It's time to stop just talking a good game, and to actually deliver on these important safety improvements.”
