Parkgrove Drive Update - May 2024
On Thursday 25th April, the Council's Transport and Environment committee met to discuss a report on Parkgrove Drive.
This came from a motion brought by local Lib Dem councillor Ed Thornley last year to bring forward options to tackle a series of problems on Parkgrove Drive - such as the terrible road surface and rat-running problems from Queensferry Road - and make the road safe for all users.
The report has outlined no changes to the road layout, and, following Council officers visiting and undertaking surveys, Parkgrove Drive has not been included for road surface repairs this year either. It instead suggested referring Parkgrove Drive to a new Local Traffic Improvement (LTI) programme, to be considered for possible improvements through a new scheme.
This lack of immediate action is incredibly disappointing, as has been the lack of engagement with local residents or councillors.
Ed Thornley said, "Residents have been clear with the Council - they just want the basics got right and to be listened to.
"With that in mind, we brought an amendment to the report stressing the need that whatever comes from this new LTI programme, it must go through consultation and engagement with residents and relevant groups (such as the Parent Council at Clermiston Primary). We were glad this was accepted by the committee.
"We also supported calls for some of the quickest fixes, such as pursuing solutions to dangerous parking, to be progressed as quickly as possible, as there is no good reason why these little things could not just be dealt with."
So - what comes next?
- Parkgrove Drive will be considered for the new LTI scheme, and we will push hard to make sure that any suggestions come with discussions with residents about what they want to see.
- We will continue our efforts to make sure the issue highlighted by residents' are prioritised.
- We will also continue our efforts to get action on the terrible state of the road surface.
We want to hear how residents think the situation on Parkgrove Drive could be improved, so please contact us on cllr.edward.thornley@edinburgh.gov.uk or cllr.robert.aldridge@edinburgh.gov.uk
While this is not the result we hoped for, we have made sure that Parkgrove Drive will get looked at further for improvements and that residents will be consulted on any proposals that come forward.
We will do our best to keep residents up to date with our work on Parkgrove Drive as it begins to move through this process
