The Council have finished upgrading the bike racks at Iona Street, Balfour Street and Dalmeny to properly secured sheffield stands, with work on Pilrig Street underway.

This comes after Leith Walk Lib Dem Councillor Jack Caldwell strongly urged the Labour administration over the last year to install racks compliant with Edinburgh Street Design Guidance.

The Council also have plans in the works for;

  • More bicycle stands at Elm Row.
  • Moving the bike lane at Elm Row to be bi-directional.
  • Ensure side streets such as Montgomery Street have cycling access.

However Councillor Caldwell will continue to advocate for more bicycle parking down Leith Walk, including near Stead's Place. He is also calling for better pedestrian space at narrow hotspots which cause concern.
