Radio Teleswitch Service closure

On 30th June 2025, the Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) will be turned off, and properties that have the will need to arrange for their provider to replace them with smart meters.

It is the responsibility of electricity providers to ensure the removal of RTS technology and replace them with smart meters, but to raise awareness, the Council has contacted the approximately 700 council properties with RTS to provide information. 

It is estimated that approximately there could be up to 15,000 properties affected in Edinburgh alone, and the Council has been working with the Edinburgh Tenants Federation to provide information for tenants.
