Speed Limit Reductions Delayed Again

Long-awaited speed limit reductions on Glasgow Road, Queensferry Road and South Gyle Broadway and Access have been delayed again.

Back in January 2022, the Council's Transport and Environment committee agreed to reduce the speed limit on these roads from 40mph to 30mph - informed partially by residents raising their concerns.

Since then, there has been delay after delay, and now the Council says it will be April 2025 before the speed limit changes are brought in.

Local Lib Dem councillor Ed Thornley said, "I asked the new Transport and Environment convener for an update on this, as it has now been nearly three years since this was agreed.

"He informed me that these changes will be part of a package to be delivered by the end of the financial year - subject to getting a contractor.

"This is yet another delay, which will only add to the concerns of local residents about the speed of traffic on these roads, which children must cross on their way to school at the Royal High, Craigmount and Forresters.

“The Council talks a good game about taking road safety seriously, but so far this has proven to be yet another instance of not measuring up to that statement. The Council must do better.”
