The future of Brunswick Street

On 20th June 2024, the City of Edinburgh Council voted to reopen Brunswick Street, but only westwards towards Elm Row. This is to allow delivery vehciles to access the new loading bays at Leith Walk and avoid reversal manouvres at the end of the street.

The other side (coming off of Elm Row / Leith Walk) will remain closed and a "pedestrian plaza" will be developed.

Leith Walk Lib Dem councillor Jack Caldwell won for support for road safety measures to be implemented where possible on Brunswick Street to deter any unforseen traffic cutting through. He is also working with the Council's roads department to get the road resurfaced.

The date for these changes is not yet specified but likely to be late in 2024 after the Traffic Regulation Order process has concluded. More detail can be found in the official report. At a similar time, the turnoff from Elm Row to London Road will be re-opened.
