Time for Action on West Edinburgh Sewage
Alex Cole-Hamilton has again challenged the Scottish Government to halt the practice of dumping untreated sewage in Scotland’s rivers and beaches.
In March it was revealed that Government controlled -Scottish Water recorded over 14,000 sewage releases into our waterways last year alone. Considering the company only monitor 4% of release points, the actual total amount of sewage pumped out could be considerably higher.
Alex has challenged the Government repeatedly to increase monitoring and bring in improvements to prevent this from happening.
“Thousands of gallons of raw sewage was pumped into the River Almond last year alone- this is endangering natural habitats and is fast becoming a public health issue. Our changing climate sees torrential storms which lead to sewage spills like this and the Scottish Government seems to have its head in the sand.
"We need investment and infrastructure to stop this from happening.”
