Kevin Lang
Councillor for Almond, Lib Dem Group Leader
ViewAt the 2022 Council Elections, the Liberal Democrat group in Edinburgh doubled in number to 12 councillors.
Following the elections, we took up leadership positions on three non-political committees and begun to make important strides in the Council for residents.
So far we have achieved big wins on pavement parking, tourist tax, EV charging, trees management, playground maintenance, school air quality and speeding enforcement.
In March 2023, we won the Corstorphine/Murrayfield by-election, with Fiona Bennett becoming our 13th councillor. And in November 2024, we won the Colinton/Fairmilehead by-election, with Louise Spence becoming the first ever Liberal Democrat Councillor for the ward.

Today I persuaded the Council to introduce an online facility to allow residents and businesses to suggest suitable locations for siting new electric vehicle charging points.
Ground-floor accessible flats in areas like Leith, Broughton, Bonnington and Hillside are vital to allow people with mobility issues to remain in our community.
The newly approved N1 parking zones in the respective Leith and Pilrig Conservation Areas will be given consdieration in regards to new signage and furniture.
Councillor Jack Caldwell has taken on-board concerns from constituents in Canonmills about the proposed development, and as such has written an objection.
