Councillor for Almond, Lib Dem Group Leader
ViewAt the 2022 Council Elections, the Liberal Democrat group in Edinburgh doubled in number to 12 councillors.
Following the elections, we took up leadership positions on three non-political committees and begun to make important strides in the Council for residents.
So far we have achieved big wins on pavement parking, tourist tax, EV charging, trees management, playground maintenance, school air quality and speeding enforcement.
In March 2023, we won the Corstorphine/Murrayfield by-election, with Fiona Bennett becoming our 13th councillor. And in November 2024, we won the Colinton/Fairmilehead by-election, with Louise Spence becoming the first ever Liberal Democrat Councillor for the ward.

ViewThe Council decided last week to make changes to the Greenbank/Meadows cycle route to remove three modal filters from the Braid Estate and introduce segregated cycle lanes on Braid Avenue and Hermitage Drive plus a new modal filter on Clinton Road.
The Trams to Newhaven Project are closing-out the Project later this year, but plans are underway to improve the Elm Row bus stop area.
Future Streets and Circulation Plan for Edinburgh includes a new focus on the Bridges Corridor, Cowgate and Canongate, City Centre, to reduce traffic or pedestrianise areas South of the City.
This would disadvantage Southside Newington residents from an access and capacity capability.
From 13 March 2024 work will begin to install the infrastructure for bin hubs for areas in controlled parking zone 3 and 7.
Your views are sought on the new plan and how far the Council is doing enough to protect and enhance the site.
