North Gyle Flooding Update
The ‘mini flood study’ secured for North Gyle is now moving ahead, and engagement with the North Gyle Flood Group has begun.
Drum Brae/Gyle ward covers the communities of Barntongate, Bughtlin, Clermiston, Clerwood, Drum Brae, East Craigs, Forrester Park, North Gyle, Parkgrove, South Gyle and West Craigs.
Working as a team with Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP and Christine Jardine MP, local councillors Robert Aldridge and Ed Thornley are strong voices for the area and fight hard to get things done locally.
Ed has been a councillor since 2022, and lives locally in East Craigs. He believes in ensuring our communities across Drum Brae / Gyle ward receive the best possible Council services.
Together with Councillor Robert Aldridge, he is campaigning for:
He sits on the Culture and Communities and Planning Committees.
Robert has been a councillor for Drum Brae/Gyle for over 30 years and he lives locally in Barntongate.
Robert was unanimously elected as Edinburgh's Lord Provost, meaning he chairs meetings of the Council and is also the civic head of the city and the ex-officio Lord Lieutenant of Edinburgh.
Robert has a long record of service and action for and with the local community and he has a strong reputation for getting things done.
For all his time as a councillor, Robert has fought to protect local green spaces from development. Most recently he opposed the recently rejected development proposals for yet more housing on greenbelt at Cammo.

The well-used paths around East Craigs are much loved by residents, but are not always the most accessible.
Energy works on the path between Mearenside and Burnside have left the path unusable and the grass around the edge increasingly muddy and slippery.
Work to widen and provide lighting on the path running from Torwood Crescent towards the school and Meadow Place Road has been heavily delayed.
The Lib Dem team are continuing efforts to get speeding tackled on Maybury Road.
Residents have been left frustrated that the worst section of the road surface still hasn't been fixed.
Concerned residents have continued to raise the lack of crossing patrols across the area, but especially on Drum Brae North.
While the promised report back to Transport Committee to improve the situation on Parkgrove Drive has not yet come back, work is being taken forward.
Clear answers have still not been given to a series of questions around plans for the junction works at Craigs Road/Maybury Road.
The local Liberal Democrats have said Lothian Buses must learn lessons after a series of major local backlashes from people in Clermiston, Parkgrove, East Craigs and South Gyle over various bus service changes.
Ed recently attended a meeting organised by the North Gyle Flood Group to begin working with lots of stakeholders to fix the flooding issues in North Gyle.
Works to install traffic lights and pedestrian crossings at the junction of Craigs Road and Maybury Road still have no confirmed start date.
